Does your child struggle to follow directions? Maybe it seems like they’re ignoring you, being lazy, or even defiant. Do simple tasks—like getting dressed or getting in and out of the car—feel like a daily battle?
What if I told you this isn’t about behavior at all, but something much deeper?
What if your child’s brain and body just aren’t working together the way they should?
In this video, we’re going to unpack something most parents have never been told:
Your child may be experiencing a disconnect between their brain and body—something that directly affects how they move, act, and respond.
It’s called whole body apraxia, and it could be at the root of many of the challenges you’re seeing.
At Spellers Center Atlanta, we focus on presuming competence and whole body apraxia.
You’ve likely been told your child has “fine motor delays” or is behind on motor milestones. Maybe they’re in OT working on handwriting or in ABA to reduce “inappropriate behaviors.”
The problem is, we are told that this is “just autism” or just a developmental delay, but not told WHY this is happening.
The truth? It’s not about laziness, noncompliance, or lack of motivation.
It’s often a motor planning issue a breakdown in the brain’s ability to coordinate movement. And it’s rarely identified, let alone treated properly.
