Vision
Developmental Vision Services
Did you know that roughly 40% to 50% of people with autism and 60% to 80% of people with Down syndrome have vision problems? Research shows that people with autism and other neuromotor disabilities see things differently than their neurotypical peers. This can cause problems with depth perception, focusing, tracking, and looking at things up close or far away. The majority of our clients have never had a full vision assessment because it is difficult or impossible to communicate what they see.
Vision leads us in our movements, such as picking up a cup or walking to the car for school, so it is important to have your child’s vision verified. A full vision assessment can help with regulation, motor planning, and even communication. When vision doesn’t work well, it can cause big challenges that affect regulation and motor skills.
