Lea Baselici

BS, Spellers Method Provider, Intentional Motor Coach

Lea Baselici

Lea has worked in the service industry for her entire career. A natural leader and educator, she has strived to make a positive difference in the lives of her peers and clients. When she found out that individuals with autism and nonspeaking, minimally speaking, and unreliably speaking individuals where not cognitively impaired as the medical industry has long believed, and they instead have motor planning issues that make it difficult for them to communicate, she knew she had to help. She took a deep dive into learning about spelling as a means of reliable communication and found the Spellers Center Atlanta and Dr. Dana Johnson by kismet. She underwent training to become a Spellers Method provider and combined her B.S. in Exercise Science with her new knowledge of the apraxic body to also offer intentional motor coaching.

What do you love most about your work at Spellers Center?

I love that our work is family focused and can translate into the world far beyond the center’s walls. The work we do is life changing and, in many instances, lifesaving. I am honored to be a part of our families’ journeys.

What is something that you wish everyone understood about your job?

I wish everyone understood that I am not teaching spelling, that I am teaching the motor skills necessary to use spelling as communication. Not having to explain my job so much would mean more people are catching on and presuming competence in the individuals I have the pleasure of working with. I can’t wait to see that paradigm shift.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

I enjoy connecting with friends, playing tabletop games, trying new recipes, and getting out in nature. I also love learning, recently focusing on trees and plants, and hopefully dusting off my old piano and violin soon!
